Greetings to all ‘Friends of Freedom’… and supporters of the Statue of Responsibility monument project!
Our cause to build what has been called “the most compelling monument project to freedom of the 21st Century” continues… here’s a small sampling of some of our latest news.
Utah HCR16 (House Concurrent Resolution) was successfully and unanimously passed in the March 2010 legislative session. The SOR Foundation, through this official resolution gave Utah a new moniker “Utah – Birth Place of the Statue of Responsibility.”

Today was a big day for the Statue of Responsibility Foundation. I have been the SOR Foundation's historical photographer since the Foundation’s trip to Vienna in 2004 where we interviewed and photographed the Frankl family and officials of the Viktor Frankl Institute. Today Governor Gary R. Herbert signed HCR 16, Statue of Responsibility Monument Concurrent Resolution. In attendance at the ceremonial signing were 30 members of the SOR Foundation and several television station reporters. At 300 feet high the monument is considered to be a companion to the Statue of Liberty and will receive worldwide attention. The artist commissioned to create the historic monument is Utah sculptor Gary Lee Price. A three foot stainless steel replica was on display at the signing.

As a follow up to the passing of HCR16, a black-tie benefit gala is being planned for the Grand America Hotel in downtown Salt Lake City. The gala’s objective will be to raise funds towards our ‘Pre-Launch Phase’ budget of $8 million.
Now everyone can view really exciting 360 degree panorama’s of the monument being created by sculptor Gary Lee Price, right in his studio. We have a new, and more economical, brochure. It’s a one page, two sided flyer that can be printed by our volunteers anywhere. Just email the PDF to your local Kinko’s and they will print them up for you in color or B&W. It’s attached here for any of you who need to print copies now…
Our ‘strategic alliance’ with the National Exchange Club, based in Toledo, OH, is completed. Exchange is a great national service club whose 23,000 members bring much worthy service to the communities in which they reside. Much more news on this alliance will be forthcoming.
Having successfully completed our ‘Start-Up Phase, we are squarely into our ‘Pre-Launch Phase’ of the project. As soon as the budget for this phase is raised, we will begin the presentation process to the six host cities on the West Coast. Once our host city has been awarded the monument and contracts have been written and signed, we will then engage the next phase, the ‘Capital Campaign Phase’, with the host city acting as our fundraising partner.
We get closer to our goal every day. One step at a time. One accomplishment at a time. One new volunteer at a time.
